About Syandan Patrika
Syandan Patrika is one of Tripura’s oldest and most respected Bengali newspapers, with a proud legacy spanning more than five decades. The newspaper was first published as a weekly on August 19, 1970, and, responding to the growing need for timely and comprehensive news coverage, it was transformed into a daily newspaper in 1974.
Founded and guided by veteran editor Subal Kumar Dey, Syandan Patrika has built its identity on the principles of truth, courage, independence and public interest. For more than five decades, the newspaper has remained committed to fearless journalism and to giving voice to issues that matter to the people of Tripura and the wider Northeast.
From its early days as a weekly publication to its present-day multi-platform presence, Syandan Patrika has evolved with changing times while preserving its core journalistic values.
📰 A Tradition of Independent Journalism
At the heart of Syandan Patrika is an editorial philosophy rooted in politically and economically liberal thought, editorial independence and public accountability. The newspaper has earned recognition for its critical and anti-establishment approach, particularly when reporting on issues involving governance, corruption, public institutions and matters of wider social importance.
Syandan Patrika has consistently sought to go beyond routine news reporting by pursuing investigative journalism and public-interest campaigns. One of its landmark campaigns played an important role in building public awareness around the need for greater transparency and accountability in governance and contributed to the broader movement that culminated in the enactment of India's Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
Our journalism is guided by a simple principle: the interests of the public must remain at the centre of journalism.
